What are veneers?

Veneers are thin layers of material, often made out of porcelain, that Dr. Armstrong bonds over your teeth to provide you with a brighter, healthier-looking smile. They’re custom-fit to go directly over your teeth and look like your natural teeth. Veneers are an excellent option for restoring your smile if you have:

  • Cracked teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Discoloration or stains
  • Gaps in your teeth

Not only can veneers look like natural teeth, but they’re strong and durable enough to match the function of natural tooth enamel.

How are veneers made?

Veneers are made at an outside dental lab. Dr. Armstrong uses 3D imaging technology to take scans of your teeth at his office. He then sends off the imaging to the lab where they custom-make your veneers with those specifications. The lab makes your veneers so that they closely match the shade of your healthy, natural teeth.

How does the procedure to place veneers work?

Getting veneers typically involves two visits to the office. During your first appointment, Dr. Armstrong takes 3D scans of your teeth to send to the lab and may use special filing tools to reduce the size of some teeth. He does this to ensure the best possible fit and make sure your teeth can support veneers. At your second appointment, Dr. Armstrong thoroughly cleans your teeth before he applies a special adhesive. He then carefully positions and bonds the veneers onto your teeth. Afterward, he cleans up any excess materials on your teeth. Dr. Armstrong also schedules a follow-up appointment with you to make sure you’re adjusting to your veneers and that they’re a good fit. After a few weeks or months, you should be chewing and speaking normally.

How long do veneers last?

Porcelain veneers are very durable and can last a long time. On average, your veneers should last up to 10 years. If you maintain good oral hygiene practices and brush and floss regularly, it helps extend the life of your veneers. As you age, normal wear-and-tear and natural changes to your mouth require adjustments to be made.
